Policy And Procedure for Eligibility and Selection of Trainees
in Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas Graduate Medical Education Training Programs

PURPOSE To define the policy and procedure for eligibility and selection of residents and fellows (hereafter, all will be referred to as applicants) in graduate medical education programs sponsored by Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas (THD).
SCOPE Applies to all applicants applying for approved graduate medical education training programs at THD, including the Internal Medicine and Colon and Rectal Surgery training programs.
PROVISIONS

Applicants with one of the following qualifications are eligible for appointment to THD residency and fellowship positions:

  1. Graduates of medical schools in the United States and Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
  2. Graduates of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
  3. Graduates of medical schools outside the United States and Canada who meet one of the following qualifications:
    • Have a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates or
    • Have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a United States licensing jurisdiction
  4. Graduates of medical schools outside the United States who have completed a Fifth Pathway program provided by an LCME-accredited medical school.

Selection:

Each training program must select from among eligible applicants on the basis of one’s preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communication skills, and personal qualities such as motivation and integrity. Programs must not discriminate with regard to sex, race, age, religion, color, national origin, disability, or veteran status.

Any final candidates must meet the Human Resources Department requirements for new employee, which includes a negative drug screen and satisfactory criminal background check.

Graduate medical education programs sponsored by Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas will participate in the National Resident Matching Program.
